Tim Service appointed as co-manager of the Old Mutual UK Specialist Equity Fund

Old Mutual Global Investors today announces that Ashton Bradbury has decided to retire from the company, as well as the City, at the end of 2014.  Ashton now wants to focus on personal interests outside of the City.

Ashton has played an integral role in helping to build the Old Mutual Global Investors’ business, particularly the UK Equities investment team.

Obviously Old Mutual Global Investors is sad to see one of the asset management industry’s most highly respected and well regarded asset managers leave the company, as well as the industry.  However, Old Mutual Global Investors fully respects Ashton’s decision and he will leave with the company’s thanks and gratitude for 14 years of service and many best wishes for the future.

Ashton comments: “Having spent 16 years commuting on a regular basis to London from my home in South Wales I have decided that the time is now right to pursue a somewhat less hectic pace of life in the years ahead. I have been fortunate to work alongside some exceptional people during my time at Old Mutual Global Investors and have no doubt that the business as a whole and the equities team specifically is very well placed to continue to move forward in the future”.

Old Mutual Global Investors has one of the asset management industry’s leading UK Equities Teams, headed by Richard Buxton, and this team is core to the company’s growth strategy.   To ensure that clients in the Old Mutual UK Specialist Equity Fund continue to receive access to top class investment expertise to which they have been accustomed, Tim Service, who has been Deputy Manager of the Old Mutual UK Specialist Equity Fund over the last two years, will become Co-Manager of the Fund until the end of the year, when he will then take over as Lead Manager.  Tim’s experience makes him an excellent choice to take over from Ashton.  Tim will continue to work alongside Ashton to ensure that there is a smooth hand over of responsibilities before Ashton leaves.

Richard Buxton, Head of UK Equities, comments: “I have enjoyed working with Ashton over the last 16 months as I have respected him as one of my peers in our industry for many years.   I am particularly appreciative of the support he has given since my arrival at the company in June 2013.  By having strength and depth in my team, we can offer clients an excellent alternative to Ashton by announcing Tim as their Co-Manager.  Tim has a great deal of investment management experience, has worked with Ashton on ideas for both the long and short side of the strategy and I believe that he is an excellent choice to replace Ashton as Lead Manager of the Old Mutual UK Specialist Equity Fund at the end of a three month transition period.”

Julian Ide, CEO of Old Mutual Global Investors, concludes: “I am delighted that we have been able to offer Tim the opportunity to take over as the Lead Manager of the Old Mutual UK Specialist Equity Fund.  This appointment demonstrates that we are keen to offer career growth opportunities to members of our team.

“I am grateful to Ashton for the guidance, stewardship and commitment to building the UK Equities business prior to, and since Richard joined the company.  He has made a vital contribution to our Management Teams over many years, and particularly since I joined the company.  The Old Mutual Global Investors Management Team and I respect his most recent decision.  Ashton will leave with our thanks and gratitude.”

Tim Service has worked in the asset management industry for approximately 12 years. He joined Old Mutual Global Investors in May 2007 as an equity analyst covering a variety of sectors for the team.  Tim is currently Deputy Manager on the Old Mutual UK Specialist strategy and the Old Mutual UK Dynamic strategy. He has also been managing a segregated mandate in UK mid and small cap since May 2013.

Tim started his career working at ABN AMRO for two years as an equity research analyst.  Prior to joining Old Mutual Global Investors, Tim spent three years working at JP Morgan covering the European food retail and consumer goods sectors, respectively.

Tim studied History at Trinity College, Oxford.
