Old Mutual Global Investors develops Corporate Governance Capability

Old Mutual Global Investors is delighted to announce that Paul Emerton joined the company on 5 February as Head of UK Stewardship and Governance.

Paul will play a significant part working with Old Mutual Global Investors’ highly acclaimed UK Equities Team to improve corporate performance and standards of governance.  He brings a wealth of experience, having spent almost 25 years specialising in this field, advising pension funds and fund managers on shareholder engagement.

After a lengthy and successful career as Head of Governance at Schroders, Paul had decided to seek a new challenge and resigned from this role.  This presented Old Mutual Global Investors with the opportunity to discuss its plans in this area and create this new post for him.  Paul will report to Richard Buxton, Head of UK Equities, with whom he had long worked at Schroders.

Richard Buxton, Head of UK Equities comments: “As fundamental investors, we know that corporate governance matters. Ensuring that companies in which we invest have good boards, genuinely independent non-executive directors and appropriate incentive structures makes a real difference to outcomes for our clients.  Actively engaging with companies and other investors to improve corporate performance is an essential part of our role as active managers and responsible stewards of our clients’ assets.  This appointment clearly demonstrates the importance we place on our stewardship responsibilities and active engagement to enhance returns for our clients.”
