Old Mutual Global Investors is proud to announce that it won three prestigious awards at the 2014 Investment Week Fund Manager of the Year Awards which took place in London last week.  These awards have been running for 19 years and are considered to be the most coveted awards in the UK investment management industry.

Having been shortlisted in ten award categories, Old Mutual Global Investors was named as ‘Global Group of the Year’ and Ian Heslop, Amadeo Alentorn and Mike Servent won awards for the Old Mutual North American Equity Fund in the North American category, and for the Old Mutual Global Equity Fund in the Global Equity and Income category.

Warren Tonkinson, Head of Global Distribution at Old Mutual Global Investors, comments: “We are immensely proud to win these three awards.  To be shortlisted for ten and scoop three awards is a terrific achievement.   These accolades represent a great team effort by everyone in our business.  Excellent investment performance, strong sales and fantastic support from across our business has made this possible.  All the hard work that has taken place since we launched our new brand in March 2013 is paying off as these awards clearly demonstrate that we are now one of the UK’s leading asset managers.”

To date in 2014, Ian Heslop and his team have won ten industry awards, including:

  • The Old Mutual Global Equity Absolute Return Fund won the Best Absolute Return Fund in the Equities Absolute Return category at the Expansion and Allfunds Awards held in Madrid; The 'Equity Market Neutral Fund of 2013' at the Choice Hedge Fund Awards 2014 and the 2014 IHFA Award.
  • The Old Mutual Global Equity Fund won Best Fund over 3 and 5 years in the Equity Global Category at the Lipper Fund Awards 2014, Best Smaller Global Growth Fund Award at the 2014 Money Observer Awards and collected its second Raging Bull Award in succession for best rand-denominated global equity general fund in South Africa.
  • The Old Mutual Japanese Equity Fund won the Best Smaller Japanese Equity Fund Award at the 2014 Money Observer Awards.
  • The Old Mutual North American Equity Fund won the Best US Equity Fund Award at the Morningstar UK Fund Awards 2014 and the Best Larger North American Fund Award at the 2014 Money Observer Awards.

The aim of the Investment Week Fund Manager of the Year Awards, in association with FundsNetwork, is to highlight funds that produce consistent performance and where there is, in the judges' opinion, a high chance that the manager will not disappoint in the future.  The awards are only for funds where the manager has been in place for three years or more. Just as the judges are looking for consistency of return, they believe one of the best ways for a fund to achieve this is via the consistency of a fund manager's tenure. The top managers tend to be those who stick with their portfolios for the long-term.  Growing manager turnover is a side effect of a shift by many talented individuals from large fund houses to boutiques, which often set up their funds offshore in Dublin. As such, the awards also covers offshore funds registered for sale in the UK as well as UK registered funds.
